Hi, I'm Dr. Tracy

Author | Psychologist | Relationship Expert

I get it—navigating relationships, especially the ones that involve extended family, can feel like walking a tightrope. You’re not alone if you’ve ever felt stuck between your partner and their mother, unsure of how to set boundaries or protect your relationship.

For nearly 20 years, I’ve sat with couples in the thick of it—through resentment, disconnection, and yes, those complicated in-law dynamics. As a clinical psychologist and couples therapist, I’ve made it my mission to take what works in the therapy room and bring it into your home in ways that feel doable, supportive, and real.

I created Be Connected, a digital membership to help people access the tools and conversations we should’ve learned long ago. My work has been featured in places like The New York Times, Forbes, and TIME, but the most meaningful work happens here—with you. I’m also the author of I Didn’t Sign Up for This and the host of the top 100 mental health podcast Dear Dr. Tracy podcast, where I talk about the real, messy, beautiful work of staying connected.

I live in Ottawa with my husband Greg and our two kids. And when I’m not writing or recording, you’ll find me curled up with a book, out for a walk with my Westie, or talking about the invisible mental load we all carry

Your mother-in-law did it one way. And now you're choosing different. And that's where the tension begins. Perhaps you find yourself trapped in a cycle with your mother-in-law, feeling like either a victim or a villain no matter what you do.  You can learn how to step outside the the victim/villain binary and forge a healthy relationship with your mother-in-law that aligns with and prioritizes your marriage and overall well-being.
